This research paper identifies the main elements of the legal, regulatory and policy framework applicable to non-renewable resource development in the NWT, and assesses the framework to determine its strengths and weaknesses in ensuring development occurs in a manner that promotes sustainable development, and more specifically a balance between economic, environmental and social interests.
