A map of South Carolina from the Complete Historical, Chronological, and Geographical American Atlas, published around 1823. See the appendix to this map, also in this collection. Cities and towns, major thoroughfares, bodies of water, islands and other geographical characteristics are labelled. Districts are labelled, outlined, and distinguished by different colours. Lists at the bottom show the populations of cities and districts throughout the state, with populations divides into the categories of "Whites," "Slaves," "Free Blacks," and the grand total. Notes around the perimeter of the map describe details such as terrain and soil, climate, and government structure. Sites of battles and sieges are indicted with red flags on the map and listed on the accompanying appendix.

The upper map is titled "The World Illustrating the Principal Features of Meteorology" and shows global wind and storm currents. An inset map on the bottom shows global rainfall patterns, with darker shading showing higher rainfall. The second map in the bottom half of the image is titled "The World Showing the Distribution and Limits of Cultivation of the Principal Plants Useful to Mankind" and shows the global distribution of plants used in agriculture and industry. Continents, some countries and islands are labelled. The limits of plant growth and cultivation are shown with labelled hashed lines.
