Attached caption reads: "More than 2,000 members of Toronto's Greek community turned out at Massey Hall yesterday to celebrate the 141st anniversary of Greece's independence. Ane Mayor Nate Phillips told them that in doiing so they were becoming better Canadians. Said the Mayor: "It is very good to live in a free country where every ethnic grood can live in freedom practising its own religion and keeping up its own traditions. "I Think it is wonderful because Greece has given the world a culture in language and art that has endured for thousands of centuries and will continue to endure as long as the world endures." By practising their traditions in Toronto, the mayor said, Toronto's Greeks make the city more cosmopolitan and at the same time exercise their right to freeddom, which makes them better Canadians. The independence celebrations included a program of Greek National Dancing and singing."

Caption reads: "Bread for Greece -- Almost 100,000 potential loaves of bread left Port Colborne last night enroute to Greece in one of two shipments designed to relieve the food shortage situation in that country. One of the box cars is shown above decked out with the Greek flag and Canadian flag along with emblem of the Unitarian Service committee, sponsors of the crusade. In front of the car are from left to right, C.V. Kester, Branch Manager of traffic at the Maple Leaf milling company plant here; M.R. Robinson, assistant manager and H.H. Knoll, mayor of Port Colborne. The car contains 714 140-pound bags of Canadian hard wheat flour slated to arrive in New York for export to Salonika, Greece, Monday morning. Another car is scheduled to leave the mill later this week."
