Map of North and South America, originally printed as part of the atlas titled Atlas historique, genealogique, chronologique et geographique de A. LeSage (Comte de Las Cases) in 1825. Text surrounding the map provides description of geographic characteristics, communications by sea and river, and history. There is particular focus on the history of explorers, including Lewis & Clark, Columbus, Cortez, and Pizarro (with their travel routes outlined on the map itself). Major cities, bodies of water are labelled. There are notes throughout the map pointing out various features. National boundaries are denoted by the countries being filled in with different colours. The short-lived country of the United Provinces of the Rio de la Plata can be seen in South America. Table in the lower left corner provides descriptions of the government, physical terrain, history of colonization, agriculture and natural resources, and characteristics of the natural landscape of the countries on the map.
